PPG completed its third COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project in San Juan del Río, Mexico, with the revitalization of a fire station in the state of Queretaro. The Colorful Communities program provides PPG volunteers and products along with financial contributions to bring color and vitality to communities where the company operates around the world, such as in San Juan del Río, where PPG operates a coatings plant and its Mexico headquarters office.
  
The project brought together more than 60 PPG employees, family members and neighbors to volunteer for one full day at the San Juan del Río Fire Station. PPG provided more than $15,500 to assist with the project, including 470 liters (124 gallons) of paint products from the COMEX brand – PPG’s architectural coatings brand in Mexico.


 
The volunteers spent the day painting the interior of the building, dormitories and classrooms. The color palette of red, blue, orange, purple, green, brown and yellow were chosen to brighten the space.
 
“We are grateful to PPG and its volunteers for revitalizing our fire station through the Colorful Communities program,” said Tania Ruiz, CEO, San Juan del Río Fire Station. “We hope the local community and other businesses follow PPG’s lead in recognizing that supporting first responders is not solely the responsibility of the government.”
 
Created in 1968 as a non-governmental organization, the San Juan del Río Fire Station currently houses 46 qualified, certified and trained firefighters who respond to an average of three thousand calls per year and provide risk-prevention training for companies and schools.

PPG has completed more than 10 Colorful Communities projects in Mexico. The first project was completed in 2015 in San Juan del Río, where PPG employees added color to the auditorium of Mahatma Gandhi Mid School. Other projects have revitalized sites in central and northern Mexico.
 
The Colorful Communities program is PPG’s signature initiative for community engagement efforts, with the aim to protect and beautify the neighborhoods where PPG operates around the world. The program increases PPG’s commitment to invest in communities and supports projects that transform community assets, providing PPG volunteers and donated PPG products. In 2015 and 2016 combined, PPG completed nearly 60 Colorful Communities projects, and it expects to complete about 75 more this year.
